- Taqa Power has been awarded a contract to construct two solar plants at Sombay.

Taqa Power, a subsidiary of the Taqa Arabia group, has been awarded the construction of two 5MWp solar PV power plants in Somabay, in the Red Sea governorate of Egypt. One of the solar plants will have a capacity of 3.8MWp and will be built under a 30-year concession agreement.
Taqa Power will sign a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Abu Soma Touristic Development (ASDC), which manages the beach resort of Somabay. Under the agreement, Taqa will construct a second 1.2MWp solar PV plant that it will transfer to ASDC.
The total investment required for the project is $4 million. Both facilities are expected to reduce the town’s environmental impact. Sombay, which is located on the Red Sea, attracts thousands of tourists annually.
