TCN Commences Load-Shedding in Kaduna, Kano, Plateau States

  • TCN has commenced load shedding in three states
  • There is a load constraint in these states as the Ikot Ekpene – Ugwuaji – Makurdi line has been cut off.
  • TCN cut off the line to allow the NDPHC to connect its new Lafia substation.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has stated that it had commenced load-shedding in Kaduna, Kano, and Plateau states on September 15 to allow the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) to connect its new Lafia substation to the grid.

According to the TCN, NDPHC had requested for power outage on the Makurdi – Jos section of TCN’s Ikot Ekpene -Ugwuaji -Makurdi – Jos 330kV transmission line. This outage enables the NDPHC to perform transposition of the transmission line and to connect the Lafia substation. As a result, there is a load constraint in the Kaduna, Kano, and Jos axis as the load from Ikot Ekpene – Ugwuaji – Makurdi has been cut off on the Makurdi – Jos axis. The TCN added that Jos is currently receiving electricity through the Kaduna -Jos 330kV transmission line.

TCN stated that the connection works are already underway and is expected to be completed soon. The grid operator noted that bulk power supply would be restored on the Makurdi – Jos line immediately after NDPHC completes the transposition work; however, the TCN did not give a timeline.
