TCN Delivered Transformers to Substations in Six States in the Last Month

To strengthen Nigeria’s power transmission infrastructure, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) recently achieved several pivotal milestones across various substations nationwide between June and July 2024. During this period, the TCN delivered several transformers to different locations in six states: Kano, Gombe, Edo, Adamawa, Lagos, and FCT Abuja.

1. Kankia Substation Upgrade: TCN inaugurated a new 60MVA power transformer at the 132/33kV Kankia Transmission Substation, injecting 48MW into the national grid. This enhancement significantly boosts the available bulk electricity supply for Kano Distribution Company (DisCo) to distribute across Kankia and its environs, effectively addressing local energy demands.

2. Gombe Transmission Advancement: Another notable achievement includes energising a 100/125MVA power transformer at the 330/132/33kV Gombe Transmission Substation. This upgrade, completed on June 5, 2024, enhances the substation’s capacity to transmit and distribute electricity, supporting improved service delivery to regional consumers.

3. Biliri Substation Expansion: TCN recently energised a new 60MVA power transformer at the 132/33kV Biliri Transmission Substation in Gombe State. This initiative adds 48MW to the substation’s capacity, facilitating more efficient electricity distribution to customers in Biliri and neighbouring areas.

4. Kukwaba Transformer Restoration: Following an emergency response, TCN restored the 60MVA TRI transformer at Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation on June 13, 2024. This restoration ensures an uninterrupted power supply for Abuja DisCo customers in Galadimawa, Games Village, and Kabusa Gardens.

5. Benin Substation Augmentation: On June 13th, 2024, TCN commissioned a new 300MVA, 330/132/33kV power transformer at the Benin Transmission Substation. This significant addition further strengthens the substation’s capacity to handle and distribute electricity, supporting economic activities and enhancing living standards in the region.

6. Kwanar Dangora Empowerment: In Kano State, TCN energised a new 60/63MVA mobile power transformer at the 132/33kV Kwanar Dangora Transmission Substation. This upgrade increases the substation’s installed capacity from 40MVA to 60/63MVA, enabling a more reliable power supply to industrial and residential areas in Kano.

7. Yola Substation Enhancement: On June 17, 2024, the Yola 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation received a new 100MVA power transformer. This addition boosts the substation’s wheeling capacity by 80MW, enabling Yola DisCo to meet growing electricity demands in Yola and surrounding communities.

8. Apapa Substation Expansion: On July 1, 2024, TCN delivered two new 60MVA power transformers to the Apapa 132/33kV Transmission Substation. These transformers add a combined capacity of 96MW, supporting Eko Electricity Distribution Company (DisCo) in enhancing electricity supply to areas like Tin Can Island and Ajegunle in Lagos State.

These achievements underscore TCN’s commitment to improving Nigeria’s power transmission network. By increasing capacity and reliability across substations, TCN aims to foster economic growth, improve livelihoods, and meet the electricity needs of communities nationwide.
