TCN Maintenance Will Cause Power Cut in Lagos, Ogun for 25 Days –ANED

  • TCN will shut down the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV line daily from July 28 to August 21 to install optical fibre and upgrade SCADA monitoring.
  • Ikeja and Eko Discos will implement load shedding as the outage disrupts supply across Lagos and parts of Ogun, including Sagamu, Ogijo, and Abeokuta.

Power distribution companies announced that Lagos State and parts of Ogun will experience daily power outages for 25 days, starting Monday, due to scheduled grid maintenance by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) confirmed that TCN will implement critical infrastructure upgrades on its Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line. The work will require daily power cuts from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until August 21.

ANED Chief Executive Officer Sunday Oduntan told TVC that the outage will affect all of Lagos and parts of Ogun, including Sagamu, Ogijo, and Abeokuta. He said the shutdown was necessary for safety during the upgrade.

TCN said it secured approval from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) to begin the work. The company plans to install Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) fibre cables to enhance the grid’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.

“We will restore power through the line each day after work ends. All other circuits will remain operational to maintain supply to the Lagos complex,” TCN said in a statement.

The company said the upgrade will allow TCN to monitor and manage grid operations in real time.

Ikeja Electric and Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) also issued customer notices, warning of intermittent supply and load shedding throughout the maintenance period.

Ikeja Electric said, “The planned TCN outage may cause disruptions across our network. We regret the inconvenience.”

EKEDC stated that the outage will affect its entire coverage area as TCN engineers upgrade the 330kV line.

Oduntan assured consumers that TCN would complete the work within the schedule and restore the regular power supply by August 21.
