- Residents obstruct the construction of the Kudanda 215KVA power plant.
- The Mando station 330kv substation in Kaduna generates 215 MW.
Engineer Sule Abdulazeez, the Managing Director of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has claimed that local landowners are preventing the Kudanda 215KVA power plant construction in Kaduna State.
When completed, the Kudandan installation will be linked to the Mando power station, which serves the northwest states of Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara.
Martins John, one of the affected landowners in Kudandan, claims that the project has impacted around 200 homes in the village and that the government’s compensations are insufficient.
According to the MD, the Kudanda project, which is 80 per cent complete, will enhance electricity supplies in the northwest. “We are here at Kudanda power station,” says the MD. We will evacuate the power to the Mando station 330kv substation in Kaduna, which generates 215 MW.
“So what we are doing now is that we are building a 330KVA transmission lines from kukanda to Mando, and in addition to that, we also have the Gurara station generating 30 megawatts. One of the reasons we have not completed this project is because we have issues. The honourable minister directed me to come here to talk to the contractor and find a solution to the problems we have with landowners.
“We are also talking to the Kaduna state government to find a way of resolving this issue. The project is 80 per cent completed, and the contractor has assured us that they are going to finish it before the end of this year.”
