TCN Schedules 7-Hour Power Outage in Abuja for Transformer Maintenance

  • TCN will conduct a seven-hour power outage in parts of Abuja on February 22 and 23, 2025, for scheduled maintenance.
  • Affected areas include the National Hospital, Garki, Asokoro, Apo Legislative Quarters, Gudu, and others.
  • Power will be restored once maintenance on the Apo 132/33kV substation’s transformers is completed.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced a seven-hour power outage in parts of Abuja due to scheduled maintenance at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation.

Ndidi Mbah, General Manager of Public Affairs, stated this on Friday. TCN will perform the maintenance on Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on both days.

Several areas will experience an outage during this period. TCN scheduled the maintenance for the 2x100MVA TR3 and TR4 transformers at the substation. The company stressed the necessity of the power cuts, explaining that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) cannot receive power from the transformers during maintenance.

Mbah said, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria informs the public that its maintenance crew will conduct annual preventive maintenance on the 2x100MVA, TR3 & TR4 transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja. Once we complete the maintenance, the power supply will return to the affected areas.”

On Saturday, February 22, the areas that will lose power include the National Hospital, G2 Injection Station, Garki, Area 1, and Asokoro. These areas will have no power for seven hours.

The power outage on Sunday, February 23, will also affect Apo Legislative Quarters, Apo Resettlement, Gudu, and Apo Mechanic Village for seven hours.

TCN explained the need for this maintenance, noting that AEDC will not receive bulk power during the process. The company also apologised to customers for the inconvenience.

Mbah assured the public that TCN would restore power after the maintenance work concluded.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause the affected electricity customers,” the statement concluded.
