  • French authorities are currently investigating the incident
  • 3500 vaccine doses affected

A 17-year old has been arrested on suspicion of intentionally cutting power off from a vaccination centre. The French authorities arrested the teenager and have handed him over to the police. The teenager is accused of cutting off circuit breakers and an emergency generator at the vaccination centre in Audincourt.

The power cut at the vaccination centre affected lasted for less than an hour and had endangered vaccines stored in the building. The town hall had indicated that about 3,500 vaccines were affected by the incident. Affected doses were withdrawn and sent to a hospital for analysis, Mayor Martial Bourquin said.

In a statement by Mayor Bourquin, he stated that the deliberate act was meant to slow down the vaccination movement. ”These acts were committed with the intention of destroying the storage of vaccines in order to slow down the vaccination movement in the Pays de Montbéliard. These acts are unacceptable and unspeakable”, Bourquin said.

The suspect remains under investigation. France has experienced attacks on its vaccination centres, with people protesting stricter measures imposed by the government to curb the spread of COVID-19.
