ACF Secures Landmark Green Agreement at BRICS Forum

The African Climate Foundation (ACF) proudly participated in the BRICS Forum on Partnership on the New Industrial Revolution in China, marking a significant step forward for the Foundation and the continent. The event underscored the essential role of China-Africa relations in fostering green development and industrialisation across Africa.

The ACF’s presence at the Forum highlights our growing influence in shaping climate and development initiatives. We engaged with key stakeholders from BRICS nations, aligning our objectives with the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) outcomes while exploring new avenues for collaboration.

A landmark moment at the Forum was the signing of a three-year Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement on Sino-African Green and Low-carbon Industrial Development. Programme Manager Sahele Fekede signed this agreement, marking the first formal cooperation between the ACF and the Chinese government and opening new pathways for sustainable industrial growth on the continent.

During the Green and Low-Carbon Industrialisation Thematic Session, Sahele Fekede delivered a keynote address emphasising Africa’s vast potential in the green manufacturing sector. He advocated for local initiatives that bolster African economies and attract Chinese investments through joint research and the adoption of advanced practices. This approach fosters a mutually beneficial partnership between African nations and Chinese investors, driving innovation and sustainable development.

“The engagement at the BRICS Forum reaffirms the ACF’s commitment to forming strategic partnerships that propel Africa’s green and low-carbon transition. We believe that collaboration with BRICS nations will be crucial in ensuring a sustainable future for the continent. By working together, we can leverage resources, knowledge, and technology to address the pressing challenges of climate change while advancing industrialisation,” he stated.

The participation in the BRICS Forum is a testament to ACF’s charge for a sustainable, low-carbon industrial landscape across the continent.  The ACF is making waves in pursuing a sustainable future for Africa, championing policies. The ACF is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping a resilient and sustainable industrial landscape in Africa, driving progress and inspiring change on a global scale.
