- The NDPHC team successfully restored two turbine units at the Ihovbor Power Plant, adding 230MW to Nigeria’s national grid.
- This achievement supports Nigeria’s energy goals and contributes to the Renewed Hope Agenda for improved power generation.
Earlier today, the Management team of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), led by the Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Jennifer Adighije and the Executive Director for Generation, Abdullahi Kassim, visited the Ihovbor Power Plant. The plant, with a total installed capacity of 450MW, is a key asset owned by NDPHC, and it plays a significant role in the nation’s power generation infrastructure.
During this visit, the team oversaw the successful restoration of two turbine units that had been offline for some time due to bearing defects. These turbines are now fully restored and operational, bringing an additional 230MW of power capacity to the national grid. This restoration is a crucial achievement, significantly boosting the country’s overall power generation capabilities and enhancing the grid’s reliability.
The successful rehabilitation of the turbines at the Ihovbor Power Plant represents a significant step in NDPHC’s ongoing efforts to support the Nigerian government’s ambitious energy goals. By addressing critical technical issues and optimising the plant’s operational efficiency, NDPHC is improving its asset performance and contributing to the nation’s power sector.
This achievement aligns with the Nigerian government’s goal of generating 6,000MW of electricity for the country, a target that is integral to President Muhammadu Buhari’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The increase in power generation from the Ihovbor Power Plant underscores NDPHC’s commitment to realising this goal and ensuring that Nigerians nationwide have access to a reliable and sustainable power supply.
NDPHC’s commitment to advancing the power sector, enhancing generation capacity, and providing quality electricity for all Nigerians remains steadfast. With the successful restoration of these turbine units, NDPHC is poised to continue playing a central role in the nation’s journey toward energy sustainability and economic growth.
