President Bola Tinubu has designated the Infrastructure Corporation of Nigeria (InfraCorp) to develop Evergreen City, a green industrial zone.
Ajuri Ngelale, special adviser on media and publicity, announced the appointment on Sunday, May 19, 2024. InfraCorp will select partners and consultants for key activities, including project design, environmental impact assessments, feasibility studies, financial modelling, and market engagement.
InfraCorp will also raise private funds for the project. The corporation will coordinate with partners, development institutions, and other capital and technical assistance providers. Additionally, InfraCorp will report to the newly established presidential steering committee on Project Evergreen.
President Tinubu has approved the creation of the presidential steering committee. This committee will oversee the project and serve as the supervisory technical working group. Ajuri Ngelale, the special presidential envoy on climate action, will chair the committee. Lolade Abiola of the United Nations Sustainable Energy for All (UN SE4ALL) will serve as secretary.
Ngelale emphasized the president’s expectations of dedication and professionalism for the project. The objective is to position Nigeria as Africa’s leading hub for renewable energy technologies, green solutions, and climate adaptation technologies. This initiative aims to benefit Nigerians and Africans at large.
