To restructure the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), President Bola Tinubu has announced the reappointment of Mallam Mele Kyari as the Group’s Chief Executive Officer. This move signals continuity in Nigeria’s oil sector. It comes as part of Tinubu’s reshuffling and unveiling of a new board and management team for the NNPCL, effective December 1, 2023. Kyari served four years under the Buhari Administration.
Alongside Kyari, Tinubu appointed other experienced individuals to the NNPCL board. Chief Pius Akinyelure takes on the role of Non-Executive Board Chairman, bringing a wealth of experience from the oil sector and beyond. Alhaji Umar Isa Ajiya will continue to serve as the Chief Financial Officer, a role critical to the financial stability and strategic investment decisions of the NNPCL.
In a statement signed on Monday, November 27, 2023, the president listed several appointees in an attempt to reshuffle the leadership structure of the NNPCL. According to the statement by Ngelale, the president appointed nine Non-Executive directors as board members of NNPCL, as well as two other permanent secretaries for the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
