Total Dismisses Claims on the Afungi Gas Project

French oil firm, Total, has dismissed allegations on the Afungi gas liquefication project. Total, the operator of the project has called the allegations of equipment dismantling ”misleading”. The recent terrorist attack in Palma resulted in the suspension of the Afungi project.

A story in the online news platform African Energy Intelligence claims, two contractors of the suspended gas project, TechnipFMC and Saipem had hired some firms to take down equipment at the site following, a recent terrorist attack on Palma town. Since the attack, the Contractors had declared Force Majeure and hired South African firm Bridge Maritime, to dismantle and transport equipment from the site to the French Indian Ocean possession of Mayotte.

A spokesman of Total has called these allegations, ”misleading” and has assured the Mozambican government that its logistics hub will not be moved to Mayotte,
