Total Eren plans to develop a 50MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) plant near Gabon’s capital city of Libreville. The company announced this week that it had signed a preliminary agreement with Gabonese authorities.
The plant, when completed, will supply power to the country’s national grid being managed by the state water and power utility Societe d’energie et de l’eau du Gabon (SEEG). Developers estimate that the plant will reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by as much as 59,000 tonnes yearly.
Gabon plans to diversify its energy generation. The country currently has about 750MW of total installed generation capacity. over 50 per cent of this capacity is produced by thermal sources, while 44 per cent is provided by hydropower.
