TotalEnergies has acquired Poland’s main biogas producer, Polska Grupa Biogazowa (PGB), whilst developing its renewable activities in the country.
With 130 employees in nine Polish regions, PGB mainly generates renewable heat and power from biogas sourced from organic waste. It owns and operates 17 facilities in production and one under construction for a total power generation capacity of 166 GWh per year. PGB’s portfolio also includes a development pipeline of 23 projects.
The acquisition of PGB raises TotalEnergies’ biogas production capacity to 1.1 TWh. It gives the company a leading position in the promising Polish market, representing Europe’s fourth-largest biogas and biomethane production potential, estimated at nearly 100 terawatt-hours (TWh).
According to the PGB website, the company is a leader in the production of renewable energy from biogas in Poland and a supplier to international markets of innovative technologies, using intelligent IT systems supporting the production of green energy.
