TotalEnergies has revealed that its 51 MW Haze solar park in Tsu in Japan’s Mie Prefecture has commenced operating commercially.
The solar plant will feed its power into the electricity distribution grid under a 17-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Chubu Electric Power Miraiz Co Inc, a subsidiary of the national utility. With almost 100,000 high-efficiency solar panels installed at the plant, the farm is expected to generate enough power for about 20,000 homes.
The project, which was completed in partnership with Suzuka Group and Tohoku Electric, was built for about two years. It was designed with earthquake and typhoon risks taken into account.
This is TotalEnergie’s fourth solar power plant in Japan, bringing its cumulative capacity in operation to over 150 MW. The portfolio includes the 27-MW Nanao, 25-MW Miyako and 52-MW Osato solar power plants that were brought online between 2017 and 2021.
TotalEnergies had a gross renewable generation capacity of 17 GW at the end of 2022. It aims to reach 35 GW of gross renewables and storage capacity by 2025 and 100 GW by 2030.
