TotalEnergies Wins NIES Offshore Project Award

  • TotalEnergies has reaffirmed its long-term investment commitment to Nigeria’s downstream sector as the market transitions to private sector leadership.
  • The company also won the Best Offshore Development Project Award at NIES 2026 for the Egina deepwater project.

TotalEnergies has reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria’s downstream energy market during a session titled Driving Domestic Value: Transforming Downstream Markets and Refining at the 2026 Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES).

During the session, Abdullahi Umar, General Manager, Retail and Cards at TotalEnergies, expressed strong confidence in Nigeria’s energy future. He linked this optimism to the country’s transition from a subsidy-driven framework to a private sector-led market structure. As a result, the company expects stronger competition, improved efficiency, and better investment outcomes across the downstream value chain.

Umar noted that consistent policy direction continues to shape investor confidence. In particular, he highlighted expectations around the full implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act. According to him, policy stability and regulatory clarity will strengthen market performance and support long-term sector growth.

TotalEnergies continues to expand its operational footprint in Nigeria. The company currently operates more than 500 service stations nationwide. In addition, it continues to deploy global best practices, operational innovation, and advanced service standards across its retail network.

Furthermore, Umar emphasised the long-term value potential within Nigeria’s downstream sector. He pointed to TotalEnergies’ more than 70-year presence in Nigeria as proof of sustained commitment and market confidence. Consequently, the company plans to deepen investments as market conditions improve.

Meanwhile, stakeholders expect the Dangote Refinery to improve fuel supply security and strengthen logistics efficiency across Nigeria. Therefore, TotalEnergies aims to play an active role in supporting the evolving supply ecosystem.

In a separate development, TotalEnergies received the Best Offshore Development Project Award at the NIES 2026 Gala and Awards Night. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, presented the award in recognition of the company’s performance on the Egina deepwater project.

The Egina project stands among Africa’s most successful offshore developments. The project demonstrates strong technical execution, operational efficiency, and sustainable project delivery standards. Notably, the facility produces up to 200,000 barrels of oil per day, strengthening Nigeria’s hydrocarbon output capacity.

The project has also delivered strong local economic benefits. It has created thousands of direct and indirect jobs. Moreover, it has supported technology transfer and advanced technical skills development for Nigerian professionals. In addition, it has improved national resource recovery through efficient reservoir development.

Mathew Bouyer, Managing Director of TotalEnergies EP Nigeria, received the award on behalf of the company. He reaffirmed TotalEnergies’ long-term partnership commitment to Nigeria’s energy sector. He also highlighted the company’s focus on collaboration, local content development, and sustainable energy delivery.

Overall, the Egina project demonstrates how strong partnerships and local content integration can deliver world-class energy infrastructure. At the same time, the recognition reinforces TotalEnergies’ role in supporting growth, investment, and industrial development across Nigeria’s energy industry.
