Commissioner Massandjé Touré-Litsé actively participated in the annual steering committee meeting for the project “Global Forest Transformation for Populations and Climate: A Focus on West Africa” in Banjul, The Gambia, on May 7, 2024. The project, funded by Swedish Cooperation and supported by the FAO, was the backdrop for the event.
On May 9, 2024, Commissioner Touré-Litsé, alongside other committee members, visited the Mansakonko region. To explore community initiatives from the national pilot project “Basic Adaptation Interventions to the Effects of Climate Change” (GRACE), led by the NGO Freedom From Hunger Campaign in the Lower River region.
During the visit, they actively greeted the Governor of the Lower River Region and observed mangrove restoration efforts in the Sandeng and Jataba villages. They also witnessed firsthand how honey production is enhancing local livelihoods.
Furthermore, the delegation actively examined assisted natural regeneration in the community forest area and observed energy-saving devices like improved cookstoves in Batelling village.
