The Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company has implemented the “Tozeur 2” solar photovoltaic plant. The plant was financed by the German Development Bank (STEG).
The “Tozeur 2” solar photovoltaic (PV) plant, with a production capacity of 10 megawatts and a cost of 25 million dinars, has just begun operations. The production of the first plant, “Tozeur 1,” will be consolidated at this new power plant, with a total capacity of 20MW. The two plants will meet one-third of the governorate’s electricity needs or about 18,000 families’ consumption.
According to Neila Gongi Nouira, Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, the plant will be operational at full capacity by the end of 2023, reducing citizens’ consumption bills and creating jobs. She also mentioned projects that will be set up as part of the National Agency for Energy Management’s (ANME) programs with German funding to aid the country’s energy transition.
