- Southern Rail train service stopped as Arundel suffers a power outage
- Several train services disrupted by the outage
- Power restored at 3.10 p. m.
The Southern Rail train services were today affected by an electricity supply outage at the Arundel area earlier today. Train services were backed up between Arundel and Barnham and also between Littlehampton and Worthing as technicians battled to install emergency electricity back up. The power failure to the signalling equipment meant no trains could run over Arundel Junction.
In addition to the affected areas, train services between Brighton/Hove and Littlehampton, Portsmouth and Southampton, Horsham and Bognor Regis, Portsmouth and Southampton were also affected by the outage.
“We are anticipating service disruption throughout the afternoon”, a Southern Rail spokesperson said. “It is in your best interest to travel later today where possible. If you do decide to travel now, your journey time will be extended significantly”, he added. Passengers were transported using a limited number of buses between Horsham, Arundel, Barnham, and Chichester.
However, a Southern Rail spokesperson has confirmed the restoration of electricity supply at Arundel by 3.10 pm. “However it will take some time to resume our West Coast services via Arundel”, the spokesperson said. “Please continue to allow plenty of extra time to complete travel this afternoon”, he pleaded.
