Trina Solar Set to Construct Floating Solar Project in Malaysia

  • Trina Solar Ltd will construct a 50MW (AC)/71MW (DC) floating solar PV farm in Sarawak.

Trina Solar Ltd, a Chinese company, will construct a 50 MW (AC)/71 MW (DC) floating solar PV farm on a hydroelectric reservoir in the Malaysian state of Sarawak. The company secured the project in an auction organised by the local utility Sarawak Energy Berhad.

Trina Solar revealed that the floating system would be located on a 191.12-hectare reservoir surface at the Batang Ai Hydroelectric Plant. The company plans to utilise the N-type bi-facial high-efficiency PV modules and string inverters for the project.

The work scope includes assembling of MV power system, upgrading high-voltage substation, and operation and maintenance services. The floating solar farm will be integrated with the Batang Ai power plant, Trina Solar said.
