Trump Administration Launches $80bn Nuclear Push in US

  • The Trump administration launched an $80 billion strategic partnership to expand nuclear power and support AI deployment across the United States.
  • The Brookfield, Westinghouse, and Cameco project will create over 100,000 construction and 45,000 manufacturing jobs per two-unit reactor.

Brookfield Asset Management said on Tuesday, October 28, that the Trump administration has launched a $80 billion push to expand nuclear power capacity across the United States. This is part of a broader effort to secure energy supplies for artificial intelligence (AI) development.

Brookfield announced the “strategic partnership” alongside Westinghouse Electric Company and Cameco Corporation, saying the plan calls for “at least $80 billion of new reactors” to accelerate nuclear energy production and AI deployment nationwide.

Although the statement did not outline a construction schedule, a Brookfield spokesperson said the partnership follows President Donald Trump’s May executive order directing the development of 10 new large reactors by 2030. The spokesperson added that the U.S. government will provide the initial capital.

The initiative marks Washington’s most significant investment in nuclear power since Trump returned to office in January, signalling a renewed focus on domestic energy independence and industrial competitiveness.

“President Trump promised a renaissance of nuclear power, and now he is delivering,” Energy Secretary Chris Wright said. “This partnership will help unleash his vision to energise America and win the global AI race.”

The move comes as tech giants such as Google and Microsoft ramp up their nuclear energy projects to meet soaring electricity needs driven by AI training and data centres.

Beyond its energy goals, the administration expects significant economic gains from the project. Each two-unit Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear plant supports about 45,000 manufacturing and engineering jobs across 43 states, while a nationwide rollout could create over 100,000 construction jobs, according to the partners.

By integrating nuclear expansion with the AI boom, the Trump administration bet that cleaner, high-capacity power would anchor the next phase of U.S. technological and economic leadership.
