The Tunisian government is launching a call for ‘expressions of interest’ to construct 70MWp solar PV plants in the country. The government intends to construct six installations with individual capacities of between 1 and 10 MWp.

The installations will have 20-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the power generated supplied to the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG). The Tunisian government has adopted a policy framework that will see the country increase its renewable energy capacity. The government has already launched four tenders for renewable energy as part of this initiative.
The Tunisian government is banking on solar energy to supply electricity as demand increases. Norwegian company Scatec is already constructing three new solar plants with a cumulative capacity of 360 MWp in Tozeur, Sidi Bouzid and Tataouine.
Interested Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and developers interested in this fifth tender will have to submit their expressions of interest by the 21st of March 2021.
