Two Firms Collaborate for Offshore Wind Farm Tenders

  • SSE Renewables and Brookfield Asset Management bids for ongoing wind farm tenders.
  • Brookfield Renewable has a 62GW development pipeline and over 21GW of assets.

SSE Renewables and Brookfield Asset Management Inc, a subsidiary of Canada’s Brookfield Asset Management, have teamed together to bid on the ongoing tenders for the Hollandse Kust West (HKW) offshore wind farm zone in Dutch waters.

The 1.4GW Hollandse Kust West zone is located 53 kilometers off the Dutch west coast and auctioned in two distinct 700MW tenders, one for Site VI and one for Site VII. Both tenders will close on May 12, 2022, and the winners will be announced later this year.

SSE plc’s renewables unit said it would compete with Brookfield Renewable Partners LP in a 50/50 collaboration. The two companies plan to pool their renewable energy development expertise. They both stated that they see the Netherlands as a prominent market for offshore wind development.

Brookfield Renewable has a 62GW development pipeline and over 21GW of assets. On the other hand, SSE Renewables has 4GW of installed renewables capacity that it plans to triple by 2026 and reach 13GW by 2031.
