- Project to supply the energy-demand equivalent of 16,800 Californian homes.
- Both energy companies agree on a 5-year power purchase agreement.
TPG Rise-backed renewables energy firm, Matrix Renewables, has gone into an agreement for the purchase of a 105MW solar project in California. The project is to contain 80MWh of energy storage from Recurrent energy LLC, which is a part of the Canadian Solar Inc.
The deal has the Gaskell West 2 and 3 projects in Kern County. Both projects have been contracted full and are under a 5-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with cities and utilities in California. The project, expected to be completed in the first quarter of the year, will have the facility produce enough electricity to cover the energy demand of approximately 16 800 California-based homes.
“Through this project, we are continuing to grow our presence in the US, drawing from Matrix Renewables’ ambitions to become a major renewables platform across the US, Europe, and Latin America,” commented Cindy Tindell, managing director and head of US for Matrix Renewables.
The turnkey battery storage solution for the project will be provided by CSI solar, one of Canadian Solar’s units. It will also be responsible for supplying, installing, and commissioning a lithium iron phosphate-based battery system.
