UBA, Renewvia to Deploy Solar Solutions Across 25 Branches

  • UBA partnered with Renewvia Solar to power 25 branches with solar energy, cutting 89,000 kg of CO₂ monthly.
  • The 10-year project, backed by Nordic investors, will expand to 50 branches, advancing UBA’s sustainability goals.

United Bank for Africa (UBA) has entered a long-term partnership with Renewvia Solar Nigeria to supply clean, reliable energy to its branches through hybrid solar installations. The collaboration will initially cover 25 branches in five states and expand to 50 locations nationwide.

UBA announced the partnership at a ceremony at its Oba Akran 2 branch in Lagos. The Nordic Ambassador to Nigeria, Svein Bæra, joined executives from both companies to inspect the facility’s inverter and battery systems. Empower New Energy, a Norway-based renewable investment firm, and Incremental Energy Solutions are backing the project.

Under a 10-year Power-as-a-Service deal, Renewvia will install 3 megawatts (MWp) of solar capacity and 7 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery storage. The first phase alone will deliver about 152,000 kilowatt-hours of clean energy each month, cutting UBA’s emissions by more than 89,000 kilograms of CO₂.

UBA Deputy Managing Director, Muyiwa Akinyemi, said the partnership reflects the bank’s vision of embedding sustainability in its operations. “This project shows how innovation and collaboration can deliver long-term value, lowering costs, improving reliability, and driving climate responsibility,” he said.

Furthermore, Renewvia Solar Nigeria’s Managing Director, Adebowale Dosunmu, said the deal highlights growing private-sector demand for renewable energy in Nigeria’s commercial and industrial space.

Empower New Energy CEO, Terje Osmundsen, described the initiative as proof of strong Nordic-African collaboration, accelerating the continent’s clean energy transition.

UBA said the partnership strengthens its position as a sustainability leader in Africa’s banking sector, aligning its operations with global efforts to cut emissions and expand renewable energy adoption.
