- BGFA signs agreements in Uganda for renewable energy and refrigeration expansion.
- Koolboks Ltd. and Equatorial Power Ltd. will receive financing for solar-powered solutions.
The Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa (BGFA) has signed two agreements in Uganda for renewable energy and refrigeration expansion. These agreements aim to establish new mini-grids and distribute solar-powered refrigerators.
The goal is to provide electricity and off-grid refrigeration to rural businesses, which will support economic development in these areas. Koolboks Ltd. and Equatorial Power Ltd. received the BGFA financing.
They will expand access to solar-powered cooling solutions and develop new mini-grids. The funding amounts to EUR 3 million.
This is expected to leverage up to EUR 6.5 million in additional co-financing over four years. Koolboks Ltd. provides solar-powered, off-grid refrigerators and freezers. It plans to expand across Uganda, including underserved districts like Ngora and Buyende.
Equatorial Power Ltd. aims to establish ten mini-grids on islands in Lake Victoria. Their goal is to serve rural communities with green power and off-grid appliances.
With these initiatives, BGFA aims to support economic development and gender equality in rural Uganda.
