- UEGCL set to take over Namanve power plant
The Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) is set to take possession of the Namanve thermal power plant following the expiration of the plant operator’s concession agreement. Mr Robert Kasande has stated that the take over of the plant is a welcome development.
The plant was constructed by Jacobsen Electricity Company (Uganda) Ltd with a concession to build, operate and transfer at a cost of $92m. The concession for the power plant expired in August 2020. Mr Kasande also stated that the government of Uganda needs to focus on transmission and distribution projects.
