  • 254MW of clean energy projects were funded.
  • Clean energy projects aim to meet the Paris Agreement’s Goals.

The UK Government, through its International Climate Finance Programme, has helped South Africa fund three clean energy projects with R253 million. This was confirmed at the launch of three clean energy projects, a hydropower plant located in the Free state province.

The other two were launched last year, one in Western Cape and the other in the Northern Cape, in October and November, respectively. This brings the total energy capacity funded to 253MW.

The British High Commissioner to South Africa, Nigel Casey, said “we are pressing for greater ambition globally to meet the Paris Agreement’s goals. This needs us to accelerate the global transition to clean power.”
