- Russia launched its largest widespread missile strikes on Ukraine
- The strike was made to make switching the electricity supply very difficult
In what Russian President Vladimir Putin called revenge for a blown-up bridge, Russia launched its largest widespread missile strikes on Ukraine since the start of the conflict in February. The strike rained cruise missiles on cities and knocked out power supplies.
In June, The Ministry of Energy in Ukraine speculated that exporting electricity to Europe, its main export market, would bring about 1.5 billion euros to the country. However, due to Russian missile strikes on its energy infrastructure on Monday, it would halt electricity exports to the European Union as the impact of the strike affected thermal generation and electrical substations. The halt of electricity exports from 11th October 2022 will give the country time to stabilize its energy system.
In a statement by Herman Halushchenko, Ukraine’s energy minister said that the strikes on the entire supply chain were the biggest during the entire war and made switching electricity supply very difficult.
