The United States-based Delfin Midstream and the British energy giant Centrica have agreed to a 15-year supply contract for liquefied natural gas (LNG), the companies said on Tuesday. The contract, which has a market value of $8 billion and is the first sale for Delfin’s proposed Deepwater Port off the coast of Louisiana, calls for a long-term supply of 1 million tonnes of LNG annually.
Pending Delfin’s final investment decision on the port project, Centrica will take delivery of about 14 LNG cargoes a year. Centrica added that the supplies could provide enough energy to heat 5% of UK homes for 15 years.
The port is anticipated to start operating and producing LNG in 2027. In terms of installed capacity, the United States surpassed all other countries in 2022 and has plans to increase production even more. Before making a final investment decision, developers frequently reach an agreement with consumers on long-term supply arrangements.
