- Under a program initiated by Senator Binos Yaroe, over 250 youths in Adamawa have been trained in solar energy technologies, including installation and maintenance.
- The initiative aims to empower participants and address local energy challenges, focusing on including 60 women as future solar engineers.
In a significant initiative to empower local youth, over 250 young individuals in Adamawa have completed training in solar energy technologies, focusing on installation, maintenance, and repairs. Binos Yaroe, the Senator representing the Adamawa Southern District, spearheaded this program.
During the event, Hon. Neido Geoffrey Kofulto, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, highlighted the vital role of equipping young people with modern skills to adapt to evolving technological landscapes. She noted that Senator Yaroe’s initiative dovetails with the Fintiri-led administration’s empowerment programs, aiming to alleviate poverty in the region.
“This is not the first time Senator Binos is addressing poverty in Adamawa Southern District,” Kofulto stated, underscoring the growing need for solar energy training amidst Nigeria’s deteriorating power grid.
Kofulto praised the inclusion of women in the training, revealing that 60 female participants will qualify as solar engineers. This focus on gender inclusion reflects a broader commitment to ensuring women can actively participate in the renewable energy sector, furthering economic opportunities.
Senator Yaroe, represented by his former campaign director general, Mr. Katawan Boniface, shared that sponsoring this program aims to empower youth, foster self-sufficiency, and benefit the community. He emphasized that participants were selected based on merit without consideration of religious or tribal backgrounds, ensuring inclusivity across the nine local government areas.
This training is seen as a proactive response to Nigeria’s urgent need for reliable energy solutions and the growing demand for skilled workers in the renewable energy sector. By focusing on solar energy, the program addresses immediate power needs and provides long-term career opportunities for the youth in Adamawa, positioning them as leaders in a critical industry.
As Nigeria grapples with power supply challenges, initiatives like this play a crucial role in transforming the landscape of energy provision and promoting sustainable development. The training empowers a new generation of solar technicians who can contribute to the local economy while helping to improve energy access in their communities.
