The University of Lagos is test-running its Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV), which was designed to eliminate carbon emissions and reduce associated vehicular noise. The University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Research), Oluwole Familoni, stated that the vehicle’s production is vital to the university’s efforts to reduce emissions and encourage indigenous engineering innovation.
The vehicle development team is led by Samson Adeosun, a professor in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. The Deputy Vice Chancellor added that the UNILAG ZEV team developed an adaptive and reprogrammable power train (drive) system. According to Mr Familoni, the UNILAG ZEV is made of local content (63 per cent hardware and 100 per cent software).
