Unstable Electricity Supply in the Nigerian Manufacturing Sector

  • The Manufacturer’s Association of Nigeria (MAN) has ascribed the underperformance of the sector on unstable electricity
  • The Secretary-General of the Association speaking in an interview, noted the importance of partnerships with foreign donor agencies and the benefits that can be achieved through these partnership programs.
  • He further noted the importance of off-grid energy solutions for the manufacturing sector

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) in a recent interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has stated that poor electricity supply is responsible for the slow growth of the manufacturing sector in the country. Speaking on behalf of the body, the Secretary-General stated that the body has entered into partnerships with foreign donor agencies to improve manufacturing in the country. These partnerships offer a unique advantage to the sector by bridging the capacity gap, educating manufacturers on power optimisation as well as providing remedies for alternate supply options.

With such partnerships on the increase, the electricity sector will – in the not too distant future – begin to see a shift in the use of on-grid energy capacity for commercial businesses. This shift will be fuelled by the decline in the cost of alternative energy sources, and the reliability of these technologies for business owners.
