US Utility Group Proposes Offshore Wind Project in Vietnam

  • AES Corp has made a proposition to construct a 4 GW offshore wind farm in Vietnam.

AES Corp, a US utility group, has made a proposition to construct a 4 GW offshore wind farm in the Binh Thuan province of Vietnam. This was revealed by the Vietnamese ministry of industry and trade on Friday. 

According to the ministry, the project is projected to cost USD 13 billion. In the statement, a letter of intent for the project’s development was submitted by AES to the Vietnamese delegation at the annual US-Vietnam Energy Security Dialogue held in Washington last week. 

Both parties talked about offshore wind, hydrogen, energy storage and nuclear power, as stated by the ministry. 

AES has been in Vietnam since 2008 when a joint venture today known as AES Mong Duong towards constructing a 1.24 GW coal-fired power plant. The US group holds a 51% stake in AES Mong Duong, with the remainder divided between South Korea’s Posco Energy and China Investment Corporation.
