- Havenhill Synergy and four other companies to share the awarded $2.3 million.
- Over 60% of African healthcare facilities do not have access to power.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Power Africa has granted contracts to electrify 245 healthcare facilities. Havenhill Synergy Limited, a premier clean-tech utility and energy access firm, has been awarded a $2.3 million grant to share with four other healthcare facility electrification (HFE) companies: Aptech Africa, D.Light, Equatorial Power Ltd., and Solar Works B.V.
According to Havenhill, the donation was intended to help Africa close its energy gap. It was discovered that over 60% of African healthcare facilities do not have access to power and that just 30% of those with access have a reliable supply.
“For these healthcare facilities to deliver quality and efficient services, access to reliable electricity is important,” the company’s CEO, Olusegun Odunaiya, said. The investment, according to Odunaiya, would help the company build up solar and energy storage systems for an additional 50 primary healthcare centres in Oyo State, utilizing the energy-as-a-service business model, similar to the grant financing received by the company in 2020.
He said, “this is a win for the industry and the healthcare facilities to be electrified. We are excited for this scale-up phase of our Energizing Healthcare Initiative that will enable over 700,000 patients annually to receive better healthcare service. We are grateful for yet another opportunity from the Power Africa team.”
“We are delighted to further contribute to the improvement of the Nigerian health sector through the provision of reliable electricity that would aid the work of medical practitioners and caregivers and also impact the lives of those within the communities.”
“In the past two years, the energy access company has deployed over 1MW of solar-hybrid systems across rural, peri-urban and urban healthcare facilities in South-West and South-South Nigeria.
“Since its launch in 2010, Havenhill has recorded groundbreaking strides in providing reliable electricity to businesses, off-grid communities, industries and healthcare facilities,” he explained.
