- Uzbekistan to award up to 500MW of solar power across the country
- A total of 11 bidders have been shortlisted
Uzbekistan has advanced to the next tender stage to award up to 500 MW of solar power capacity across three sites in the country. Last week, the Ministry of Energy and National Grid of Uzbekistan JSC announced the names of pre-qualified bidders eligible to proceed in the competition. They launched the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage of the tender.
The country intends to use the solicitation to select independent power producers to build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) solar projects in the Bukhara, Namangan, and Khorezm regions. The plants’ capacities will be around 250 MW, 150 MW, and 100 MW, respectively.
A total of 11 bidders have been shortlisted following the Request for Qualification (RFQ). Among them are Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC, Masdar, France’s Voltalia, Egypt’s Elsewedy Electric and Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power.
Winners in the tender will be tasked with the design, building financing, operation, maintenance and transfer of the solar parks. The Bukhara site is planned to be coupled with a battery storage system of around 63 MW.
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) supports the tender process, which provides advisory services to the government.
