Vattenfall AB, a Swedish utility, announced today that it was awarded a contract-for-difference (CfD) in the UK auction, securing support for its up to 1.8-GW Norfolk Boreas offshore wind farm project.
According to the official results, the state-owned power company won the 15-year CfD at a strike price of £37.35 per MWh for a 1.4-GW phase, one of the lowest prices in the auction. Together with its sister project, Norfolk Vanguard, Norfolk Boreas makes up half of Vattenfall’s 3.6-GW Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone in the waters of East Anglia. The Boreas phase will be the first, with construction set to begin in 2023, according to Vattenfall.
The company added that Norfolk Boreas and Norfolk Vanguard are subject to Vattenfall’s board making final investment decisions.
