Vesper Energy Hits 1 Million Solar Panels in Texas Mega Project

  • Vesper Energy has installed over one million solar panels for its Hornet Solar project in Texas, which will generate 600 MW of clean energy to power 160,000 homes annually.
  • The project employs advanced bifacial solar panels and a single-axis tracking system, feeding energy into the ERCOT grid through Oncor Electric’s network.
  • Scheduled for full operation by spring 2025, Hornet Solar secures long-term profitability with Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and boosts Texas’s renewable energy efforts while creating jobs.

Vesper Energy has installed over one million solar panels for its Hornet Solar project in Texas, marking a significant step in one of the largest single-phase solar projects in the U.S. Located in Swisher County, the project spans more than 15 square kilometres.

Once completed, Hornet Solar will generate 600 megawatts (MWac) of renewable energy, powering approximately 160,000 homes annually. The project plans to install a total of 1.36 million panels by the end.

Juan Suarez, co-CEO of Vesper Energy, emphasised the importance of this milestone. “This achievement shows the dedication of our team and our partner, Blattner Energy,” he said. Vesper Energy continues its efforts to advance the U.S. energy transition through renewable power.

The project uses bifacial photovoltaic panels that capture light from both sides, increasing energy production. These panels sit on a single-axis tracking system that follows the sun to maximize output. Oncor Electric’s transmission network will carry the energy into the electrical grid, serving the region under the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).

Vesper Energy ensures Hornet Solar’s financial stability through long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with four different partners. These agreements guarantee consistent revenue and provide consumers with a stable supply of renewable energy.

The project remains on schedule for full commercial operations by spring 2025. It strengthens Vesper Energy’s role in the solar energy sector and meets the growing demand for clean energy in the U.S.

Hornet Solar’s environmental impact significantly reduces carbon emissions and decreases reliance on fossil fuels. By generating 600 MW of clean energy, the project helps Texas reach its renewable energy goals and cuts the region’s carbon footprint.

The project also brings substantial economic benefits. Large solar projects like Hornet Solar create jobs and boost local economies. Vesper Energy has partnered with local businesses to promote community involvement and create hundreds of construction jobs.

Once operational, Hornet Solar will provide long-term economic benefits through taxes and land lease payments. It also strengthens energy security in Texas by delivering a reliable source of renewable power to the grid.

In summary, Vesper Energy’s Hornet Solar project marks a major milestone for renewable energy in the U.S. Installing over one million solar panels underscores the project’s progress toward completion in 2025. As the project moves forward, it will deliver both environmental and economic benefits to Texas, showcasing the increasing role of solar energy in the nation’s energy landscape.
