Vestas Lands 697 MW in Asia-Pacific Wind Deals

Vestas Wind Systems A/S, the Danish wind turbine manufacturer, announced new orders totalling 697 MW in the Asia-Pacific region, including a 315 MW offshore deal in Japan.

In South Africa, Vestas secured a 95 MW order for 21 V150-4.5 MW turbines. The company expects to deliver and commission these turbines in 2026, with the customer remaining undisclosed.

In Q4 2024, Vestas landed its first firm order for the V236-15.0 MW turbine in the Asia-Pacific region. The company will supply 21 turbines for the 315 MW Oga Katagami Akita offshore wind farm in Japan’s Akita Prefecture.

A Japanese consortium, including JERA Co Inc, J-POWER, Tohoku EPCO, and ITOCHU Corp, is developing the project. Vestas plans to deliver the turbines in 2026, with commissioning expected in 2027. The wind farm will become fully operational by June 2028.

Vestas also signed contracts for three onshore wind projects in Japan, totalling 92 MW. These deals include 38 MW and 34 MW projects from undisclosed customers. Additionally, the company secured a 21 MW order for the JRE Sakata Wind Farm Replace project, a joint venture by ENEOS Renewable Energy Corp and Tohoku EPCO. Vestas expects to commission the turbines in 2026.

Vestas signed a 105 MW deal with Synergy in Australia for the King Rocks wind farm. The company will deliver 17 V162-6.2 MW turbines in Q3 2026, with commissioning set for Q4. Another deal with Synergy and Bright Energy Investments involves supplying 108 MW of turbines for the Warradarge Stage Two Wind Farm. Vestas will install 30 V136-3.6 MW turbines for this AUD 400 million expansion, increasing the Warradarge wind farm’s capacity to 283 MW. Commissioning is expected to start in Q4 2026.

Mercury Energy selected Vestas for a 77 MW order for its Kaiwaikawe project in New Zealand.

Vestas closed the quarter with 6,026 MW in announced orders, slightly below the 6,945 MW from Q4 2023. Additionally, the company reported 1,303 MW in unannounced orders.
