Voltalia Secures a 130-MW Solar Park Project

  • Voltalia has secured a project to build a 130-MW solar park in Tunisia.
  • The solar park’s annual output will equal the electricity consumption of more than 700,000 inhabitants.

Voltalia, a renewable power plant operator, has secured a project to build a 130-MW solar park in Tunisia. The solar park will be contracted with the country’s power grid operator.

The photovoltaic (PV) farm will be installed near the city of Gafsa in southwestern Tunisia.

 Paris-based Voltalia said that construction works are planned to commence in 2025, and commercial operations will be launched in the following year.

The solar park‘s annual output will be equal to the electricity consumption of more than 700,000 inhabitants.

 Revenues will come from a 30-year power sales contract with Societe Tunisienne de l’Electricite et du Gaz, or STEG, the operator of the Tunisian public grid.

According to Sebastien Clerc, Voltalia’s CEO, ” Tunisia has a great renewable energy potential in the short and long term, ” citing “ attractive climate conditions, supportive governmental policies and strong support from international financial institutions.”
