- Wartsila plans an 18MW extension to a power facility in Senegal.
- The upgrade will optimise the interconnection and control of the existing power plant.
The technology group Wartsila has disclosed plans to deploy an 18MW extension to the power generating facility and upgrade the electrical and automation system of the existing power plant at the Sabodala-Massawa gold mine complex in Senegal.
Sabodala Gold Operations is planning the upgrade to integrate all the site’s generating capacity and ensure sufficient electricity to power the mine’s production activities.
Wartsila plans to install three 32 engines by the end of 2023. The engines will be 20 per cent more efficient and energy conservative than the existing ones and will reduce the plant’s carbon emissions. They will also provide the flexibility needed to support the integration of solar power and energy storage.
According to Wärtsilä, upgrading the automation system will optimise the interconnection and control of the existing power plant.
