  • WATT is set to deploy over 32MW of hybrid solar PV and lithium-ion battery storage across 600 sites in Nigeria.
  • WATT and Airtel align to commit to sustainable development.

WATT Renewable Corporation (WATT) is a privately owned company specializing in hybrid solar solutions. This initiative follows an Energy-as-a-Service model and involves the installation of solar power and lithium-ion battery storage. The goal is to improve the reliability and uptime of Airtel’s power supply as they expand their network coverage and introduce advanced technologies like 4G and 5G.

This partnership reflects WATT’s commitment to sustainable development and aims to help Airtel meet its sustainability, reliability, and cost targets while benefiting local communities. By replacing diesel generators with WATT’s hybrid solar solution, the project will improve air quality and operational efficiency through innovative enclosure technology at the installation sites. WATT will also operate and maintain the energy generation sites, ensuring a consistent supply of reliable, renewable energy and a long-lasting collaboration with Airtel.

Oluwole Eweje, CEO of WATT, expressed enthusiasm for this collaboration, emphasizing its significance in providing renewable energy to Nigeria’s telecommunications sector, which is crucial for sustainable growth. This initiative aligns with Airtel’s sustainability objectives, benefits local communities by enhancing air quality, and strengthens connectivity for millions of users. WATT plans to expand further in the telecommunications sector in the coming months and years.
