The Economic Committee for West African States (ECOWAS) held a virtual validation workshop on data collation for member countries. The data report will form the basis for an update on the current ECOWAS Regional Energy Policy. The workshop was organized by the ECOWAS Directorate of Energy and Mines.
In attendance at the virtual event were the ECOWAS Commissioner for Energy and Mines, representatives of the Ministry of Energy from member states, the European Union and other ECOWAS specialized agencies. In his opening remarks, the ECOWAS Commissioner for Energy and Mines Mr. Sédiko Douka following the adoption of the Regional Energy Policy in 1982, it has become necessary to update the policy in order to address the current challenges in the sector.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the Committee adopted the data report. The report will form the basis of a draft policy document for the region.
