The first agreement sets the stage for AP1000 reactor construction at multiple Canadian sites. Known for their safety and efficiency, these reactors will increase energy capacity while utilising Canadian resources and expertise. Aecon, an Ontario-based company with expertise in nuclear component manufacturing, has supplied significant projects like the Vogtle plant in Georgia, USA.
Westinghouse projects each four-reactor AP1000 development to inject CAD 28.7 billion into Canada’s GDP. The construction phase will create nearly 8,000 local jobs, while long-term operations will sustain an additional 12,000.
