Why Abuja Holds Key to Nigeria’s Non-Oil Export Growth –NPA Boss

  • Abuja’s central location strengthens Nigeria’s non-oil export growth by linking producers to international demand clusters.
  • The Nigerian Ports Authority’s new digital systems ensure faster, seamless, and globally competitive non-oil export growth.

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, has emphasised Abuja’s central role in driving Nigeria’s non-oil export growth. He explained that Abuja’s location and agro-allied strength give it a unique edge in connecting producers to global markets. This makes the capital a strategic hub for boosting Abuja’s non-oil export growth while directly supporting the Federal Government’s diversification agenda.

Speaking at the NPA Special Day during the Abuja International Trade Fair, Dr Dantsoho unveiled several initiatives to support this growth. These include Export Processing Terminals (EPTs), electronic call-up systems, and the Ports Community System (PCS). According to him, these measures simplify logistics, reduce delays, and make Nigeria more competitive globally.

He also stressed that the NPA has linked EPTs with Domestic Export Warehouses (DEWs), Inland Dry Ports, and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC). This integration creates a stronger framework for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), enabling them to participate actively in Abuja’s non-oil export growth and reach international markets.

Furthermore, Dr Dantsoho explained that the PCS will be the foundation for the National Single Window (NSW). This innovation allows real-time collaboration across the maritime value chain and ensures that even remote producers can access global demand “with the push of a button.”

He concluded by urging stakeholders to take advantage of the NPA’s export facilitation services and encouraging businesses to use the Authority’s digital portal for faster, more seamless access to trade opportunities. By leveraging Abuja’s central location, digital infrastructure, and agro-allied strengths, Nigeria is better positioned to accelerate non-oil export growth and build a more diversified economy.
