  • WiSolar is to create an app for solar electricity purchases.
  • Tonye Irims, WiSolar’s chief executive officer, says the solar electricity unit will be a game-changer.
  • WiSolar has been working on a  solar-as-a-service system since 2019.

WiSolar, pan-African solar electricity and renewable energy firm, is set to create a mobile app that will allow Nigerians to buy solar electricity units on a prepaid basis.

Apart from offering specialised home solar financing options to clients as a cost-effective way to afford its services, the energy solutions company claims that the innovative and easy-to-use app is an attempt to democratise the process of solar electricity consumption for users, allowing residential developers, property owners, and prepaid solar electricity customers to buy electricity units on the go.

Customers can also be immediately enrolled as merchant partners or residential developers on the site, allowing them to sell/purchase packages and earn commissions on prepaid purchases from their wallets to bank accounts.

Tonye Irims, WiSolar’s chief executive officer, stated that the debut of the mobile app for prepaid solar electricity units would be a game-changer for the continent’s drive toward clean energy adoption. Irims explained that once the service is launched, consumers can buy prepaid electrical units in the same way they buy data.

“We look forward to partnering with developers and merchant partners as we roll out the app, which will be available for download on all app stores and the WiSolar website,” he added.

WiSolar’s CEO stated that the firm has been working on its solar-as-a-service system since 2019 and that the company has been working around the clock to find the proper developers and upstream partners. He also revealed that the company is teaming with New Frontier Developments, a Nigeria-based private equity firm, to install prepaid solar electricity in over 1000 houses across Africa’s most populous country.
