Engr. Valerie Agberagba in her presentation made this assertion
- The presentation was at the Abuja Chapter of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE)
- She also condemned the disregard of women in the sector
Engr. Valerie Agberagba, has championed the role of women in the electricity sector. The Vice-Chairman of the World Federation of Engineering Organisation made this known in Abuja. She stated that women in energy are much equipped to fix the problems of the sector.
According to Mrs. Agberagba, with over 80 per cent of Management Teams in the sector headed by men, the number of women remains negligible. Speaking further she said “when women serve as policymakers, executives and employees and entrepreneurs, evidence shows that energy policies are more effective, energy products have higher sales rate and utilities have a higher return on equity and investment”.
On opportunities present in the sector, she acknowledged the efforts of women in the renewable energy sector. She said the “government has created opportunities for funds to be accessed. So, what better time for women engineers to refocus and explore opportunities that are being created to grow businesses and impact lives?”.
She, therefore, encouraged women in the sector to take advantage of the opportunities present in the sector to make a lasting impact.
