A gender advocacy group, Women in Energy Network (WIEN), has urged President Bola Tinubu to embrace gender equity and inclusion in meeting the 35 per cent inclusion policy on key government appointments. The group, which promotes affirmative action and gender equity for female professionals, appealed to the new government not to leave out its members in the appointment of board members and heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
WIEN wants Tinubu to add a fillip to the prevailing global affirmative action on gender inclusivity in government. In a congratulatory letter signed by its President, Mrs Funmi Ogbue, WIEN reminded President Tinubu that a diverse team would help his administration foster innovation, creativity, and equitable and balanced decision-making for better results.
In addition, WIEN commended Tinubu’s administration on its commitment to diversity and inclusion and offered to work closely with the government in areas of proven capacity, expertise and experience. The group, requesting more women in government agencies, told the president that the group stands out as the leading network that promotes the participation and advancement of women in leadership across the entire energy chain in support of national development.
