  • The Network plans new training initiatives and partnerships to enhance professional development.

The Women in Energy Network has restated its commitment to raising standards for women in Nigeria’s energy sector. The group encouraged members to remain innovative as they strengthened their skills and supported the country’s evolving energy landscape. The Network also reaffirmed its commitment to expanding opportunities for women in Nigeria’s energy sector over the coming year.

WIEN announced its goals during its 4th Annual General Meeting held in Lagos. The meeting confirmed the re-election of Eyono Fatayi-Williams as president for a new two-year term. Members also ratified the new executive team. The group praised the rise of women in midstream and downstream leadership roles. It noted that representation in the upstream segment is also increasing.

Fatayi-Williams stated that WIEN has grown steadily over five years. She emphasised that the group remains committed to helping women excel across the energy value chain. She encouraged members to set bold goals and pursue leadership roles with confidence.

The Network now has more than 1,100 members. Four corporate organisations also joined in 2025, including NNPC Retail, Lonadek Global Services, Tenaris Nigeria and TotalEnergies. WIEN highlighted these additions as proof of growing recognition for its work.

She explained that WIEN expanded its community outreach through STEM-focused career fairs in Lagos and Port Harcourt. The events helped young girls understand that STEM careers remain within reach. The group also increased its presence at national and continental energy forums, ensuring women’s views influence policy discussions.

WIEN delivered masterclasses and webinars that supported members’ technical and professional growth. The sessions covered cybersecurity, finance, AI, mental health and tax compliance. The programmes promoted mentorship and practical learning.

The Network also met with the Special Adviser to the President on Energy. The meeting led to the development of a database of women-owned businesses and women eligible for board appointments. WIEN strengthened support for female-led enterprises through a new partnership with eTranzact International Plc. The partnership offers discounted access to the FIRS e-invoicing platform.

Executive Secretary Asanimo Omezi said WIEN will run new programmes in 2026 to help women secure strategic roles across the oil and gas value chain. Dr Cecilia Aqua-Umoren added that WIEN increased its visibility through sustained advocacy and strategic partnerships.
