The foundation will have an initial budget of \u20ac49 million.<\/p>\n<p>The fund will provide grant financing for mini-grids and DRE systems, including home solar systems and\u00a0<a tabindex=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pv-magazine.com\/2021\/01\/18\/eu-cash-will-fund-solar-lights-for-fishers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">solar-powered lights<\/a>, cooling, mills, and\u00a0<a tabindex=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pv-magazine.com\/2021\/07\/08\/eu-finance-to-back-solar-pumps-and-lanterns-in-tanzania\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pumps<\/a>. The fund plans to partner with crowd-funding lenders, including Sweden&#8217;s Trine, to achieve its targets; the foundation aims to facilitate the deployment of at least 190 mini-grids with a cumulative generation capacity of 17MW.<\/p>\n<p>KfW has already committed to a \u20ac23.5 million program &#8211; the Green Citizen Energy for Africa &#8211; to deploy mini-grids in Mozambique. This programme aims to provide energy access to over 7,000 homes and rural businesses.\u00a0 The new KfW fund aims to provide energy access to 350,000 people on the continent.
